Copy and Paste or Cut and Paste
Here's a link to a very easy and very fast way to learn to copy and paste (and to cut and paste). Note that, although this lesson shows the text being pasted in the same document it was copied from, it can be just as well be pasted into any other document and in any other program, even if that document or program is not open at the time you cut or copy. Also, you may cut/copy/paste pictures, photos, graphics, etc using the same technique.

Email Problems
If your not getting the mail from EFFORTS that you think you should.
. .
Do NOT send a "test message" to the EFFORTS list. No need to involve thousands of members. Besides, if your test message does not show up. it doesn't tell you where the problem lies. Instead.....
1. You or your service provider may be blocking it. (Check this out first). To do that:
Look at your blocked addresses list. If efforts@effortslist.org or listserv@effortslist.org are there, remove them. (To prevent any such possibility in future, add both of these addresses to your address book).
Look at the mail in your Spam folder. If any mail from efforts@effortslist.org or listserv@effortslist.org is there, accept the mail and, to prevent any such possibility in future, add both of these addresses to your address book).
2. The EFFORTS listserv may be temporarily out of service (down). To check this out:
Send an email to listserv@effortslist.org with only the two words - thank you - in the body of the message. If the listserv is up and functioning properly, it will promptly send you a reply message saying - you're welcome -. If you get no reply, you can surmise that the listserv is down.
3. If neither of the above indicate a problem, it is likely that the list is just experiencing a lull in member activity. i.e., no one is writing.
4. If you continue to receive no list mail over a considerable period of time yet the rest of your mail is doing OK then, as a last resort, a possible fix is to ask the list owner to unsubscribe you and then subscribe you again. This will in some cases cure the problem. Send a description of your problem and your request to efforts-request@effortslist.org
The Ten Commandments of E-mail
Thou shalt include a clear and specific subject line.
Thou shalt edit any quoted text down to the minimum thou needest.
Thou shalt read thine own message thrice before thou sendest it.
Thou shalt ponder how thy recipient might react to thy message.
Thou shalt check thy spelling and thy grammar.
Thou shalt not curse, flame, spam or USE ALL CAPS.
Thou shalt not forward any chain letter.
Thou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or unethical purpose.
Thou shalt not rely on the privacy of e-mail, especially from work.
When in
doubt, save thy message overnight and reread it in the light of the
dawn.
And, here's the "Golden
Rule" of e-mail:
That which thou findest
hateful to receive, sendest thou not unto
others.
Because EFFORTS is a large organization and our list is both an activist list and a support list for COPD/Emphysema we tend to have more mail than many other groups. We have a number of mail delivery options that can tailor how the mail is delivered to you. They are:
1. Regular.... You receive each message that is posted to the list, as it is posted.
2. Digest.... You receive only a few (but longer) messages, called digests. These digests are periodic collections of individual postings prefaced by a brief Table of Contents. You read the individual messages by scrolling through the Digest.
3. Index, HTML.... With an "index" subscription, you also receive only a few message per day, but these are very short "index" messages. These do not include the actual text of the individual postings. Instead, for each posting, its date, author, subject, length (number of lines), and a hyperlink to the actual message is listed. You can then scan the index and read any message of interest by simply clicking on its hyperlink.
4. NO MAIL.... This is an option normally reserved for those that wish to have their mail stopped temporarily (due to vacations, etc.) and have it reinstated within 30 days. This option allows continued access to the archives even while on NO MAIL status, thus allowing "catching up" before being reinstated.
If you wish to change your "option", just fill out and submit the form at the bottom of http://www.emphysema.net/bbanner.html or send a note to efforts-request@effortslist.org (You can change at any time.)
Computer viruses, myths, hoaxes & chain letters
( Most of the messages we receive about alleged viruses and/or dangerous scams are in fact hoaxes or urban legends. Please do not pass along ANY chain letters, regardless of content. As to the others, please check them out below, and do not pass along any that are scams, hoaxes, or urban legends.)
