Dear EFFORTS Member:  The purpose of this letter is to ask for your immediate help in an urgent follow-up letter writing campaign.

SECOND PHASE 7/19/2003

H Con Res 6 (Copd Awareness Month) was agreed to in the House by a vote of  423 to 0 on July 16.  It was sent to and received by the Senate and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions on July 17.  It moved under pages (Roll no. 374). (text: CR H6886).

Now it's time for us to concentrate on getting our Senators to promptly support its approval in the Senate. First priority is getting the resolution reported out of that Committee so that it will come to a floor vote. Here's a link for addresses for all Senators: http://www.senate.gov/contacting/index_by_state.cfm and, very important, here are the names of the committee members, web links for each member, and a model letter.

Judd Gregg (R-NH), Committee Chairman http://gregg.senate.gov/

And here's a slightly modified letter which should be sent not only to the members of the Committee but to all Senators from all States.

The Honorable___________

Please support prompt Senate approval of H Con Res 6, agreed to by the House on July 16, and forwarded to the Senate's Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions on July 17. H Con Res 6 declares Congressional support for a permanent "COPD Awareness Month". The pertinent facts about the need for such a month are included in the Resolution. I am a patient with Emphysema/COPD and a member of a worldwide Internet-based group of nearly 1000 patients with COPD, working to get more effective care and treatment of this debilitating and expensive disease through public education and by additional research funding.

A permanent COPD Awareness Month will be a major step toward these EFFORTS.

Our group website is at  http://www.emphysema.net   and our name is EFFORTS (Emphysema Foundation For Our Right To Survive).

Sincerely, Name, Address City, State and Zip
