WELCOME TO EFFORTS!

You are now a member of EFFORTS, a non-profit organization which takes an active role in promoting research for more effective treatment and, hopefully, a cure for Emphysema and related lung diseases. We also work to further the education of those who are not completely familiar with our disease, and we provide a support mailing list for our members.

What now seems to have been a long time ago (May 6, 1998) , we formed EFFORTS.  An awful lot of work and heartache has gone into making EFFORTS what it is now and is starting to become.

We have a lot of Angels that are watching us and helping us to take those careful and meaningful steps that are required when first learning to walk.

We must grab hold of each other occasionally to continue that walk, but there is always someone there to help us get back upright and continue our journey.

CONDUCT GUIDELINES

Any large organization must insist on certain guidelines for conduct between members and for dealing with the public. (Remember these guidelines extend to posting on the mailing list)  Our guidelines include the following:

a.  Extend politeness to other members and to any contacts.
b.  Exhibit tolerance for opinions and feelings different from yours. If offended by innocent remarks, please direct it to the individual, not to the list.
c.  Refuse to get into aggressive arguments or verbal conflicts with other members or contacts.
d.  Language which is foul or obscene, abusive, or otherwise offensive to the group, will not be tolerated.
e.  No advertisements for personal or monetary gain is permissible.
f.  Also, please do not post or respond to messages regarding religious, political, or strong controversial views that might provoke inappropriate action or stress to other members.  This means simply that if someone chooses to post a message with any of these themes, if you respond to the list, you become equally guilty of violating our guidelines.   When such situations occur, Management has no option but to take the necessary steps to maintain control and dignity of the list.
